About Us
The Hotel Investment Company was established in 2009 by International Property Specialists La Luz Property.
This came in line with the rise in popularity of buy-to-let hotel room investment. This area of our activity at La Luz Property grew rapidly during 2008-2009, so much so that we decided it should have its own company, dedicated to and focused on the provision of hotel investment properties. More recently, our provision has expanded to include student accommodation and care home room investments.
Our newest company will incorporate all our previous experience in UK and international property and combine that with in-depth market knowledge specific to hotel investments. We aim to offer clearly presented, high quality products that have been thoroughly appraised and meet our exacting standards.
Yes, we'll be selling hotel rooms to investors... but more than this, we are keen to provide something new and unique. The Hotel Investment Company will bring together a range of great products sourced from reputable developers and a transparent and 'no-nonsense' approach. We want you to know all the facts before you buy and will advertise products based on real merits, not bombard you with flashy figures.
Jeannie Lumb
Managing Director Jeannie is the inspiration and key element of the driving force behind the Hotel Investment Company. Currently also managing director of sister company La Luz Property, Jeannie brings with her a wealth of valuable experience both as a business owner and as an employee.
Previously a Probation Officer and University Lecturer, Jeannie and David set up La Luz Property - one of the first internet overseas property sales companies. She has greatly enjoyed seeing it go from strength to strength, and now feels the time is right for a brand new challenge. "The idea for the Hotel Investment Company came about from our experience of selling The Flaxby, showing there is a clear place in the market for products like this - and for the service The Hotel Investment Company will offer."
Jeannie will be focusing on strategic planning and service delivery - which she says give her a great buzz, as does ensuring that customers and business partners are happy and satisfied with the service they have had from our team. She makes it clear that business ethics and values are key for The Hotel Investment Company and will be ensuring that they run through every strand of the business and the service it provides. She says "Being a Probation Officer for many years taught me a great deal about human behaviour; namely, 'Never judge a book by its cover' and 'treat others how you would like to be treated' . Aggressive and dishonest tactics in business do not work for her - 'An element of healthy rivalry is one thing, but co-operation and helpfulness win out in the long-run.
Outside of work, Jeannie is a big music fan and loves having a special link to the great E Street Band. She is a keen swimmer, with one channel swim under her belt and is now considering a second - although her most favourite hobby at the moment is collecting conkers with her grandaughter.
David Burgess
The challenge of running our own business has been one that he and Jeannie have embarked upon as a second career, although they have always been interested in overseas property having previously bought and sold property in Greece and France. The creation of this more specialist business has grown out of La Luz Property, their first business, and is something that David thinks will become a steadily growing market. About his change in career, David says, "My father, who ran a business with my mother, always advised me that I should work for the Government for the job security and the pension. Well, I've followed this advice for a large part of my working life but am now enjoying the freedom that comes with being of being one's own boss."
Outside of work he enjoys most sports, more as a spectator these days, and walking the family's Golden Retriever. Also we have to mention David's brief recording career, the fund raising record with the excellent Nils Lofgren of the E Street Band, raising funds for Martin House Childrens Hospice in the UK and Cotlands in South Africa. Nicki Lumb
Nicki is Marketing Director at The Hotel Investment Company and brings with her over ten years of PR and Marketing experience in a variety of public and private sector organisations.
Specialising in online and digital marketing, Nicki enjoys the challenge of the constantly evolving nature of electronic media and loves learning about new developments and technologies. She has recently taken design course and hopes to be able to use this new skill to benefit both businesses.
After six years marketing international properties with La Luz Property, Nicki is focusing on alternative investment sector opportunities for The Hotel Investment Company, but will also still be in charge of the La Luz website.
Nicki graduated from the University of London in 1994 in Russian and French and has since worked in international publishing, conference organising and then marketing.
